5 Books That I Would Take to a Deserted Island!

Hey, bookworms! For today’s blog post I decided I wanted to do something a bit more classic and traditional and discuss 5 books that I would take to a deserted island! I decided to switch and up and challenge myself by choosing 1 book from 4 different genres. While these are definitely some of my all-time favorite books, I also chose these vs other ones due to their readability and how much I think they could entertain me over and over again! The genres I’m going to be discussing are romance, thriller, fantasy, general fiction, and non-fiction! Let’s get started!

General Fiction Choice: It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

A little fun fact about this book is that most people characterize it as a romance, but thankfully for my list, this is actually sold in stores as a general fiction due to its main storyline being about something much, much deeper. I chose this as the general fiction book that I’d take on a deserted island because it was so easy for me to become immersed in Lily’s story, and to see where life took her! I adored Atlas in this book, and their friendship even after all of the years they didn’t speak. I also loved that this book was more so meant to share a story about domestic abuse and how sometimes love cannot be enough! I know I could read this book over and over again if I needed to because Colleen’s writing style and methods of developing intricate stories genuinely never disappoint me!
Thriller Choice: The One by John Marrs

I’m pretty sure this has been my all-time favorite thriller for over 2 years now! I love the way John Marrs decided to follow 5 different relationships that go through turmoil while 1 person from each couple was exploring the possibility of using your DNA to find your true soulmate. Because there were 5 different storylines to follow, it meant that the chapters were very short and thrilling! At the end of each chapter, I swear I was like, “Okay, I need more now!!!” While it’s been a hot minute that I’ve read this, I know that I would love it the same, if not more each time I read it, because I’ll be able to create these 5 very different relationships in my head and notice new little things every time! Such an exciting thriller with aspects of sci-fi and romance attached, I would recommend this book to anyone!
Romance Choice: Flock by Kate Stewart

If you are not aware of just how obsessed I am with this series, you should know…I’M OBSESSED! This would be my perfect romance choice to take on a deserted island for many reasons. First off, if my fiction pick wasn’t It Ends With Us, it’s possible my romance choice would have been different, but it’s not so I’m so happy Flock made it to the list! The writing is easy to follow and super spicy, I became devoted to getting to know all of the main characters, including Cecelia, Sean, Tobias, Dominic, and Tyler, and the small-town feel was totally there too! This book follows multiple relationships, polygamous included, and it was equally about the intense, dark plot as it was about the smut and romantic connections Kate Stewart so beautifully created!
Fantasy Choice: A Court Of Mist And Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Before I start discussing ACOMAF, I did want to preface this by saying I’ve only ever read the A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) series, so I didn’t really have a lot of choice for fantasy, but I still thought this book was excellent and worth mentioning! ACOMAF is the second book in the ACOTAR series, and it was leaps better than I could have ever expected. The story is based on a mortal girl named Feyre who gets herself into a lot of trouble with regards to loving a faerie and going on dangerous adventures. I loved the aspect of finding family in this book, but there was also an insane amount of adventure, action, and romance that kept me hooked too! This book is quite lengthy at approximately 600 pages, but it’s because Sarah J. Maas uses this book to help us get to know the Inner Circle better, and it helped me connect with all of the characters so much more! This is definitely a well-loved series for a reason!
Non-Fiction Choice: YOU ARE A BADASS – How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero

It’s been years since I’ve read this book, but I still use so many of its tips to this day and I truly believe it would give me a lot of great reminders and advice, even if I was stuck on a deserted island! Jen Sincero is a very humorous writer and likes to give very real examples from her life that allow us as the reader to laugh and truly understand the struggles of life that we all can conquer! She has so many other books in her YOU ARE A BADASS series, but this one was definitely the general and covered so many important topics such as self-sabotaging beliefs and behaviors, taking big, exciting risks, figuring out how to make money, learning to love yourself and others, and setting big goals and reaching them! Essentially this book will help you create the life we all deserve to live, feeling happy and fulfilled!

Conclusion
There are my 5 book choices to take to a deserted island! Before ending off this post I did want to give some honorable mentions because it was genuinely hard to choose for some of the genres! We have Stephen King on Writing by Stephen King as my 2nd non-fiction choice; it taught me a lot about writing and how passionate I truly am to write a book one day! We have Delilah Green Doesn’t Care as my 2nd romance choice as it definitely sparks so much joy in me and I loved the grumpy-sunshine/forbidden love/queer romance tropes within it! Lastly, we have Verity as my 2nd thriller choice because I just remember feeling so on edge and creeped out the entire time while reading it, and whenever I have such intense emotions toward a thriller it deserves to be on a list!
