My Top 6 Anticipated Romance Books that Release in May 2022

Hey bookworms! For today’s blog post I decided to discuss some exciting new romances releasing in May 2022! It definitely feels like Spring is the time for a lot of new releases this year and I could not be more thrilled about it because Spring, to me, is all about new beginnings!

Most of these are adult romances, but I have thrown in 1 or 2 YA romances as well! I will be sharing a brief description of what each book is about, who the author is, and a little snippet about them, as well as the actual release date for each book! Let’s get started!🎉

By the Book Releasing May 3rd, 2022

Jasmine Guillory has written some amazing romances in the past, including The Wedding Date, and The Proposal! She is an African American woman who is a native of the Bay Area, and she often has African American professionals as her protagonists in her romance books. Interestingly enough, By The Book is the 2nd book in the Meant to Be series, shared with Julie Murphy, who wrote the first book, If The Shoe Fits!

By the Book is a story about a woman named Izzy who is 25, lives at home, and is working as an editorial assistant at a publishing company where she is the only Black employee. She knows she deserves a promotion and when an opportunity comes up to help her achieve it, she goes for it! All she has to do is go to a Beau Towers’ mansion in Santa Barbara and give him a pep talk on how to complete his long-awaited manuscript.

Izzy soon realizes that Beau is just as lost as her, and with her support, Izzy is finally able to get Beau to start writing so she can deliver to her boss. They both quickly discover that they have more in common than they thought, and as his deadline approaches, they realize there may be something between them.

I always love a good book about books and publishing companies, it’s so fun learning the ins and outs of how a publishing company works in the form of a fictional story. I have yet to read any of Jasmine’s work, but I’ve heard such good things and I feel like this will be a good introduction for me!

Book Lovers Releasing May 3rd, 2022

Emily Henry has written some of the most popular, best-selling romance books over the years; primarily popular on TikTok! She studied creative writing at Hope College and the now-defunct New York Center for Art & Media Studies. Her most popular books to date are Beach Read and People we Meet on Vacation! I’ve also noticed that she likes to add a bookish spin to each of her books, whether it be two authors as the main characters, or now, a literary agent and editor!

Nora is a hero to her clients, for whom she lands huge deals as a strict literary agent, as well as her little sister Libby. After Libby begs, Nora agrees to go to Sunshine Falls for the month of August, and Libby hopes to help Nora become the hero in her own story. However, Nora doesn’t bump into her dream hunk, instead, she keeps running into Charlie, a brooding editor from back in the city that she doesn’t get along with! As Nora and Charlie are constantly thrown together in a series of coincidences, they discover how they’re capable of helping each other carefully craft their own stories!

Once again, I’m such a suck for any books about books and this definitely seems like the ideal book for me! Not only because I love romances about reading, but because I feel like this will also have a coming-of-age aspect for both of the main characters.

I Kissed Shara Wheeler Releasing May 3rd, 2022

Casey McQuiston is a best-selling author of romantic comedies and is well known for her adult rom-coms Red, White & Royal Blue, and One Last Stop. She was born and raised in Louisiana and now lives in New York City doing what she loves most, writing!

Interestingly enough, this book is her debut YA rom-com, and it’s all about chasing down what you want, only to find what you truly need. After moving to a new city and high school, Chloe Green floats through high school with no drama and the thing that’s kept her head up: winning valedictorian. The only other person who’s up for the task is her rival, Shara Wheeler.

A month before graduation, Shara kisses Chloe and then disappears. Chloe tries to find answers, only to be more confused when she finds out that Shara also kissed Smith, Shara’s longtime quarterback boyfriend, and Rory, Shara’s bad-boy neighbor with a crush. All three of them have nothing in common except for Shara and the notes she left behind. The three of them together follow the trail of clues to find her, and Chloe suspects there may be more to this small town she moved to, and more to Shara than she thought!

I don’t know why, but this sounds so fascinating to me. It gives me 13 Reasons Why vibes and I’m such a massive fan of romance and mystery combined! Not to mention this is YA, which will make it such a quick and entertaining read too!

Set On You Releasing May 10th, 2022

This is probably the book I’m most excited about out of the six! Amy Lea is an Asian Canadian author debuting with Set On You! She plans on writing a lot of romantic comedies featuring strong heroines, witty banter, and mid-2000s pop culture references!

Curvy fitness influencer, Crystal, has built her career by shattering gym stereotypes! She recently went through a breakup, leaving her with little stamina left for me, and finding peace and comfort in the gym. A new, smug gym member, Scott, has been routinely stealing her favorite squat rack. The last thing either of them expects is to run into each other at their grandparents’ engagement party.

In the weeks leading up to their grandparents’ wedding, Crystal realizes that there’s a soft heart under Scott’s muscular exterior. They bond over family and fitness, and she just might have found her soulmate. But then a photo of them goes viral, and rude internet trolls put their fresh relationship to the ultimate test!

Okay, but how interesting and niche does this rom-com sound?! I am totally in awe that I have never seen this theme in a romance before, and I love the idea of incorporating weightlifting into a romance! I’m also such a fan of the fact that Crystal isn’t a stereotypical “slim” fitness influencer, and she has meat on her bones (like me😂)!!!

Something Wilder Releasing May 17th, 2022

I don’t feel like I need to explain this author duo too much, because they’re insanely popular, but Christina Lauren is actually two women: Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings. They are co-authors who write YA and Adult fiction, specifically romance, and they have together produced 17 best-selling books! Fun Fact: The two women had polar opposite jobs prior to writing together and started writing together nearly a decade after they met penning fanfiction online!

Lily Wilder, the daughter of an absent father who’s a treasure hunter, has little patience for discussing his profession and has very little money in the bank. Lily decides to use her father’s old maps to guide tourists on fake treasure hunts, and while it pays the bills, it didn’t leave her much to achieve her dream of buying back the beloved ranch her father sold years ago. One day, she’s taking tourists on a treasure hunt and the man she once loved is there and ready to walk back into her life.

Leo decides to join a treasure hunt in the middle of the desert, and then he suddenly runs into Lily, his first and only love. He wants nothing more than to leave the past behind and rekindle what they once had. However, Lily is all business, and he can sense that she wants nothing to do with him.

When the trip goes wrong, the only way they can right the wrongs is if Lily and Leo work together and confront their history. Leo and Lily must decide whether they’re willing to risk their lives and hearts on the adventure of a lifetime.

I’m intrigued by the adventure aspect of this book, and especially now that I’ve read a Christina Lauren book, I’m excited to read their beautiful writing in a setting such as the Utah desert!

See You Yesterday Releasing May 17th, 2022

Now enters our 2nd YA romance book! Rachel Lynn Solomon writes about imperfect characters falling in love. She is well known for her best-selling YA book, Today Tonight Tomorrow, and her best-selling adult romances, The Ex Talk and Weather Girl. Originally from Seattle, she now resides in Amsterdam!

Barrett is hoping college will be a fresh start after all of the drama from high school. On the first day of college, everything goes wrong. She’s humiliated by a know-it-all in her physics class, and botches her interview for the college paper! After all of her mistakes and mishaps, she flees to her dorm room. When she gets there, she realizes her roommate locked the door and she decides to sleep in the common room.

When she wakes up, she realizes she’s in her dorm room and it’s her first day of college…again. After a confrontation with Miles, the know-it-all from physics, she realizes she’s not alone in the loop as he’s been trapped for months! Barrett and Miles work together to find a way out, and as they start falling for each other, they face the universe’s biggest unanswered question: what happens to their relationship if they can make it to tomorrow?

This definitely sounds super interesting, and I know a lot of people enjoy Today Tonight Tomorrow, so this one will most likely be just as fun! I can’t wait to see how this book’s storyline goes!
